INTRODUCTION:
In IATF 16949:2016, IATF stands for International Automotive Task Force.16949 is a number of series that represents the standard and 2016 means that the standard was launched on 2016.
IATF 16949:2016 is a common automotive quality management system. IATF is a group of big automotive manufacturers that aims to provide better quality products to automobile companies around the world. IATF 16949:2016 is the first edition of IATF 16949 and released on 1st October 2016. It is replacement to ISO/TS 16949:2009 and aligned with ISO 9001:2015.

IATF is a management system standard for automotive industries. An Integrated Management System (IMS) integrates all the systems and processes of an organization into a complete framework and enables an organization to work as a single entity with specified objectives.
Many standard system are covered under Management System standard. For example- IMS = QMS + EMS + SMS + EnMS + FSMS+ ISMS etc.
- 'QMS' means Quality Management System
- 'EMS' means Environment Management System
- 'SMS' means Safety Management System
- 'EnMS' means Energy Management System
- 'FSMS' means Food Safety Food Management System
- 'ISMS' means Information Security Management System
REQUIREMENTS UNDERSTANDING OF IATF 16949:2016 standard:-
The requirements of the IATF standard are the same as before but they also need to be understood. The following words have been used in the requirements, whose meaning should be known and understood.
- "Shall" means mandatory. It means that Where shall is within requirement, it is mandatory to be done.
- "Should" means recommendation. It means that where "should" has been written, that is, it is good if you do it.
- "Note" means guidance or clarification. It means that these points are only for guidance or clarification purpose.
- "Such as" means guidance only. It means that where "such as" has been written, it gives us only for guidance purpose.
BASE AND JOURNEY OF IATF STANDARD:-
IATF is a common automotive quality management system which base has been created by including ISO/TS 16949:2009 and ISO 9001:2015, also in addition the elements of the Italian standard AVSQ, French standard EAQF, VDA 6.1 German standard and QS 9000 (US) standard.
IATF was formerly known as ISO/TS. Which was implemented by the IATF in 1999 as the first edition of ISO/TS 16949:1999. After that its second edition came in 2002 with the name of 16949:2002 and then the third edition came in 2009 as named 16949:2009. After that, After that, in the year 2016 the ISO/TS was renamed as IATF which is known as the first edition of IATF 16949:2016.
