3 TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Now let's start a discussion on three time management strategies.
Are you confused about these three time management strategies? These 3 time management strategies play a big role in every industrial or other sector that are used to optimize the work week, all managers take these time measurement strategies. We are seeing that many people are confused about Takt Time, Cycle Time and Lead Time, but you have to be one of them.
CYCLE TIME:
The time taken from the beginning to end processing of a product is called cycle time.
There are five elements of cycle time:
- Auto cycle time
- Online routine time
- Online occasional time
- Offline occasional time
- Walking time
1. Auto cycle time:
The time that is required by machine from start to finish the operation independently without manual interventions.
2. Online routine time:
The time required for all manual activities that are repeated in every cycle time.
Also, the machine needs to be stopped to carry out these activities. E.g.- Loading and unloading the workpiece in the machine.
3. Online occasional time:
The time required for manual activities that are not repeated in every cycle. Also, the machine needs to be stopped to carry out these activities. E.g. - Tool change time
4. Offline occasional time:
The time required for manual activities that are not repeated in every cycle. Also the machine need not be stopped to carry out these activities. E.g. - Inspection time
5. Walking time:
The time that is required to walk from one operation to the next operation is called the walking time.
HOW TO CALCULATE CYCLE TIME?
Cycle time (CT) = Net production time / No. of part produce
Example:
Suppose a machine produced 800 units in 8 hrs.
Then, Cycle time = Net production time / No. of part produce
Cycle time = 8×60 min. / 800 units
In sec. 480×60 / 800 = 36 sec. Per piece
36 sec. is a cycle time of one piece.
PURPOSE:
To know about number of part that can be produce
To know machine capacity
To find out required number of manpower
To know the utilization of machines / plants.
TAKT TIME:
It is the rate to which a company needs to produce the product to satisfy the customer's demands. It helps to decide targeted cycle time.
HOW TO CALCULATE TAKT TIME?
Takt time (TT) = Available production time / Qty. Required by customer
Example:
Suppose a customer needs 1800 Nos. per day.
And company is running in 3 shifts (According to 8hrs per shift)
Then customer demand is 1800/3= 600 Nos. per shift
Net production time is 450 min. per shift.
Then,
Takt time = Available production time / Qty. Required by customer
Takt time = 450 min. / 600 Nos.
In sec. 450×60/600= 45 sec. per piece
45 sec. per piece is a takt time. It means that to fulfill customer demand, units produce at a minimum rate of 45 sec. per piece.
If cycle time (CT) is less than takt time (TT), this situation generates overproduction.
And if cycle time (CT) is more than takt time (TT), then order may fail.
LEAD TIME:
The time taken from receiving the order to delivery of the product.
